We need Salmon.

Will the wind please stop blowing!!!  I can’t remember a summer this stormy.  Bad weather this weekend, resulted in bad fishing.  Low numbers of Salmon aren’t helping either.  We moved around a lot the last few days.  We saw fish in a few spots, but they wouldn’t stay long enough for us to really work them.  The action we did have, was in 125 fow west of the Salmon River and up north, Lake View, in 100 fow.  The best lures were green chips with either the Hypnotyst, Hammer or Sweetpea flies.  Some of the Michigan’s are still working also.

Salmon are here?

We went to the south shore today for browns.  Once again it was a safe move, but not great fishing.  In the afternoon, we went north.  We got a tip that we followed up on, and the Salmon were there.  We couldn’t do much with them, but they are there.  Green chip with sweetpea fly, Perch Michigan and Blueberry Muffin were the best lures.

Tougher than it should be.

Well, storms kept us off the lake again on Monday.  We were able to get them out Tuesday morning instead.  Fishing was very slow.  We started off the trip by hooking into a 24lb. King a only 15 min. into the trip.  We caught the fish in 65 degree water ( she must have been lost ).  It bit a stingray sized Mongoose on the wire with 270 ft. of string out.  We then waited a very long time for the next bite.  Slow to say the least.  It must stop storming.  It is really very simple.  Inconsistent weather, inconsistent fishing.  Oh well, we are dealt what God gives us right.  It’s ok.  It helps to build character.  Wednesday, we started for Kings.  Not being able to find them, we decided to try our luck for browns for the last part of the trip.  It was the right move.  We landed a bunch of great fish before…once again… we got chased in by lightening.  The trout came in 104 fow off the five stacks ( ALCAN ).  The Perch stingray Michigan, Blueberry Muffin and a Green chip with the Sweet pea fly all worked well.

Lots of storms.

Well, the fishing on Thursday, was very good.  We stayed in for browns and did well with them.  We also managed to catch a bonus 28 lb. King.  Lots of bait and fish in the Catfish Creek area.  Friday, we never left the dock.  Severe lightening, that would’nt go away, kept us off the water all day.  We got back out Saturday and it was very tough.  We managed to land a few browns, but had to work really hard for them.  Today, we fished hard all day, to land 8 browns.  We had more that that on, but had the dropsies.  We are fishing 115 - 125 fow right now.  Deeper than we would like for trout, but we are catching some.  Hope the Salmon show up soon.

Rough weather not a problem.

The big waves, and I do mean big, weren’t a problem for Betty and her daughter on Wednesday.  We went over just east of Nine Mile point and set up for browns.  The blueberry muffin, glow alwive and perch Michigans all worked and we landed some nice fish.  We were fishing down around 100 ft.  Hope the wind stops soon.  We are sick of getting beat up.

Stiff wind…again.

Once again on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, the wind blew.  We went up north again on Sunday only to get chased off before the end of our trip.  We made up the time with them on Monday morning.  The fishing was real good Sunday, but a little tougher the next day.  On Monday, we weren’t able to go way north due to the wind direction.  We went over to the Catfish area instead.  The fishing was a little slower than the day before.  The stinger Mongoose, glow Alwive and Lighthouse spoons worked well.  85-95 fow was the place to be in both spots.

A long ride, but worth it.

Well, we took the ride north to Stony in search of browns.  We did find them, and what do you know, they bit.  We had a great day today, landing 25 fish on three trips.  85-100 fow was the place to be.  The hot lures were the Michigan Stinger Lighthouse, Perch and Glow Alwive.  Wires were back 225 ft and 260 ft.  The riggers 92-100 ft down.  We got chased in a little early this afternoon due to wind, but we will be back up there tomorrow.

The big browns keep coming.

While we would be happy if the Brown Trout fishing would improve a little, we are catching fish and we’re still getting some wall hangers.  Our Trip on Friday was no exception.  We worked very hard to land 7 trout, but they were nice ones.  Still the same place.  The High Rocks, back towards the Little Salmon River, in 95 fow.  The Stinger YNBK, Tuxedo, and Hammer have been the best.  We might try it up north tomorrow to see if the fish are more cooperative.

Up and down weather. Up and down fishing

Lets just say the weather has stunk lately.  Every wind forecast has been wrong, and thunderstorms have either come earlier of later than they were supposed to.  Monday was slow with a few fish being caught on each boat.  We would have done much better if we weren’t fighting 5-7 ft. waves.  Not fun!  The high wind we got on Monday, wrecked the fishing for Tuesday.  The Brown Trout that we had been fishing for in 80 fow moved out to 140 fow and wouldn’t bite.  Our search for Salmon was unsuccessful also.  Wednesday, Thank goodness, the trout moved back in to 95 fow.  Still deep, but fishable.  When Brown Trout move out beyond 110 fow, they become a different animal.  They become very hard to catch.  Wednesday and Thursday, the fishing improved with Scott and his son Kyle, from San Diego, landing their 2 day limit of browns.

Weird weekend.

Fishing on Friday was good. The lake was rough. Waves out of every direction made it feel like we were in a washing machine. The fish bit well though. On 3 trips Friday, our clients landed 26 Brown Trout. Saturday was much tougher. Both boats landed fish, but not as good as we would have liked. Approaching storms put them off the bite early in the day. Sunday, same thing. They bit well for about an hour, then they shut down. We managed to land 5 nice fish before they shut off. Two spots, in front of the Little Salmon River in 75-85 ft. of water and north of the Salmon River in the same depth, have been good. Plenty of fish and bait. Still not much in the way of Salmon.
