Inconsistant?

The last few days, have been a rollercoaster ride.  As the weather goes up and down… so does the fishing.  The changing wind patterns have killed us.  Yesterday morning was tough for everyone involved.  We had one trip out and managed to capture 3 Salmon fishing right in front of the river.  In the afternoon, we had the other boat out and managed to catch 6 Cohos from one spot.  I do mean one spot… a tiny spot.  This spot, was loaded with Cohos.  More that I have seen in one spot in almost 20 yrs.  To catch only 6 was puzzling.  If not for the boat traffic, I think we could have caught them at will.  Today was just as up and down.  We caught fish in the morning on one boat, and in the afternoon on the other.  Weird.  We need stable weather.
The stiff 25 mph. South wind we had today, won’t work.

There movin in!!

We fished 10 to 20 feet of water today, in front of the Salmon river. Flat lines with glow green and green/yellow j-plugs worked, also the flounder pounder spoon on the rigger down 6 feet caught fish. Fish were also taken in 70 to 90 foot of water off the Salmon river. There’s a huge load of fish coming in from the north, should be a great weekend.

Still lots of Salmon.

Yesterday large numbers of staging kings and cohos were lurking in 70 to 90 feet of water from the mouth of the salmon river to the north dune.A good early bite took place, followed buy slower fishing then the last couple of days.White and green E-chips and spin doctors with crazy fish and hammer flies made up the menu.Dipsy divers 180 to 210 feet out on a 3# setting took several fish.

Hot, hot, hot! The fishing and the weather.

The Salmon fishing was great again today.  The place to be was 75 - 80 feet of water from the Salmon River to Sandy Pond.  Dipsys back 190-200 feet and downriggers 65-80 feet down.  Green and white e-chips with hammer and crazy fishflys were the hot ticket.  Green-glow spin doctors were hot as well.  We had to deal with a hard 30+mph South wind, but the fishing made it worth it.  A mixed bag of Kings and Cohos made up our catch for the day.

Some more Salmon from the last couple of days.

The average size of our fish this year has definately been larger.  We have had several fish in the upper 20lb to low 30lb range.  We have also started taking some nice Coho’s as well.

A great day!

We had a great morning of Salmon  fishing on the big pond.  There were fish from the 70 - 90 ft. depth from the Salmon River, North towards Sandy Pond.  The green glow #4 j-plug worked well off a rigger till we broke it off.  White and green chips with hammer flies and Mt. Dew as well as green glow spin drs. with the Crazyfish fly also worked.  The fish bit the riggers, down 70 to 86 ft. and wire divers out 120 and 115 ft. equally well.  We landed 11 Salmon on the morning 6hr. trip.  Looking foreward to tomorrow.

Lots of Salmon

Right now we have salmon all over the Eastern end of Lake Ontario.  The 70 - 90 ft. line from Nine Mile Point to Stony Point is loaded with fish.  Kings and Cohos are being caught in good numbers most days.  We have been concentrating our efforts North of the Salmon River in the Southwick State Park area.  65 - 95 fow has been the best on the last three trips.  The green glow #4 j-plug, white chip/glow hammer, green chip/hammer, green spin dr./crazyfish and white green Mt. Dew spin dr./glow hammer have all worked well.

Still inconsistant.

Even though the Salmon are here,  the fishing is still inconsistant.  We have had south or East wind now for a few days, and it has filled the eastern basin with cold water.  The temp.  is down 40 - 50 ft. right now, which is too shallow.  We should be fishing in about 100 fow of water right now.  The fish are close to the river and they are acting weird.  One trip is good, and the next poor.  A light west wind is needed to pull the fish back out from shore a little.  The best lures have been #4 green glow j-plug, white chip/glow hammer and frog spin dr./hypnotyst.

Getting tired.

Spending 100 hrs. a week on a boat, can make a guy tired.  Sorry for the lack of reports lately.  We will try to do a couple a week till the end of September.  Oh do we have Salmon.  The 70 - 80 ft. line from the Salmon River to Monterio Point, is LOADED.  They still aren’t biting as well as we want……..Yet.  That will change though.  White chips, Green chips, Black Spin dr’s, Chartruse chips and Hammer, Glow Hammer and Mirage flies all have worked well.

Ahhhh! That’s better.

Big difference in the Salmon fishing today.  It’s amazing what happens when the weather stabilizes.  We have been seeing Kings now for a week and catching minimal numbers.  Today, they bit.  In the am, we were in 165 fow off the Sandy Pond area.  The fish came down 130 - 140ft.  On green chips with Hammer flies.  In the afternoon we had to slide into 120 fow and a little south.  The green chip/Hammer and white chip/glow Hammer combos as well as a green Hoochie/Hammer and green Spin Dr./ Hypnotist worked well.  The weather should be stable now for a few days.  We will see what happens.
